My passion is for clear communication, especially written communication. That?s why I write and edit for other people. I?ve been helping people with their novels, memoirs, and business/self-help books for decades. I?ve learned through experience that those who are honest in what they write are reliable business colleagues, paying on time, providing necessary material, and helping their projects move forward. Today?s publishing companies employ fewer and fewer editors, and those overworked editors seldom ask authors for changes. They want it professionally edited before it gets there. They turn down a thousand books for every one they accept, and even when they like something enough the buy it, they often suggest that the author hire his or her own freelance editor for everything from critiques to line-by-line editing. Some publishers even leave the publication proofing to the author. More and more of them insist that a book be ready for publication when it arrives in their mailbox. They have to do this to compete. In today?s publishing market more and more authors succeed through self-publishing. Most of these successful people have hired freelance editors to help them shape and improve their work.
That?s where I come in. I?m an experienced editor and a published writer. I?ve worked for newspapers, magazines, and book publishers. I?ve edited and ghostwritten books that had commercial success, most recently Greg Kihn?s ?Rubber Soul.? I?ve written, edited and published fiction and nonfiction of all kinds. My own stories and articles have appeared in places as diverse as Twilight Zone Magazine, Playgirl, and The Washington Post.
I cannot guarantee your book?s success, but I can improve its chances. I am an editor first and foremost, and I will not want any part of the ownership of your book.
